cool down!

A temperature that was basically just about right in the mini kiln proved to be mostly too hot in the big kiln. I think part of the problem is that the small kiln can cool down so much more quickly.

This time most of the yard sale glass devitrified in spite of washing it with borax. The system 96 melted so much that the fiber felt channels kind of floated to the top.

Only the ice-wine bottle came out perfectly.

So -- I probably won't try again up beyond 1500.

Here's the bad schedule...
6-segment
............rate /hour .......degrees.............hold
1.............750.............1000 .............10
2. .............500 .............1540.............40
3 as fast as possible....1000 ............. 10
4..............250 .............950 .............40 (annealing happens here)
5..............150 .............800 ............. 0
6. .............350 ............. 300 ............. (note the total time to fire this cycle is about 7 hrs in the small kiln but took about 10 in the big kiln)

Here's what I will try next time!
6-segment
............rate /hour .......degrees.............hold
1.............750.............1000 .............10
2. .............500 .............1490.............20
3 as fast as possible....1000 ............. 10
4..............250 .............950 .............40 (annealing)
5..............150 .............800 ............. 0
6. .............350 ............. 300 ............. (hopefully the total time here will be back to about 7 hrs as it won't have to get as hot, won't hold as long and won't be so difficult to cool down. Should I try to flash the lid after the 20 minute soak or not??? The lid is SOOOO big and scarey... )
