How long it takes
The kiln was had completed the 1465 soak by 5:30-ish and I flashed it several times -- it dropped over a hundred degrees in a few minutes at that point -- hopefully helping to get safely past that ugly devitrification range.
I guess the sequence was started around 1:00, so 4-5 hours up till it's time for the down ramp seems to be what to plan for at this temperature. It obviously took longer going higher and I doubt I'll be doing that again.
Right now, nearly 8:00, the kiln is around 870 and has finished all the annealing but it will still be a couple of hours till it's at 300, and even then, I'm better to wait rather than risk any shock by opening too soon. Tomorrow morning perhaps?
