the new kiln
Here's the firing schedule for the first run of the new kiln. I'm really just burning off the dust, etc. and the directions recommended that the kiln be fired empty for one run, but I wanted to try to tack-fuse a couple of found objects (2 yard sale plates broken and glued together as a platter) and I also want to fire my fibre board cut to oval and a drop oval shape so I can then put the kiln wash on these and use them as molds.
So I'm ramping up more slowly, just in case there's any moisture, leaving the peephole open for ventilation (fan is on as well). This kiln seems noiser than the other one.
4-segment
............rate /hour .......degrees.............hold
1.............600.............750 .............18
2. .............500 .............1350.............20
3 as fast as possible....1000 ............. 30 (annealing)
4..............200 .............975 .............15 (more annealing happens here)
(note the total time of firing is thus about maybe only 4-5 hrs -- I started a bit before 3:00 but want to give the items a lot of time to gradually cool down so won't open till maybe 10:00 or 11:00)
